Justice Delayed

Trump is becoming more irrelevant by the hour – we wish. He is still a very dangerous lame duck. Yet every day he has his stooges file baseless and basically stupid lawsuits is one day he doesn't do something really crazy, which I'll leave to already overtaxed imaginations.

Insiders have said that he actually believed he was going to win the election because of all his jive rallies and, more important, the very active voter suppression by his criminal allies. I hope so because that makes his resounding defeat only more delicious.

There seems to be a lot of gloating conjecture about who will be the one to finally whisper in his ear that the show is over. I don't think it really matters because he has been holed up in the White House like he's in witness protection watching interminable television, so I'm sure at one level he's getting the picture. But the level we have to really worry about is the unbound narcissist who is still the president. All the talking heads are worrying that he will burn down the house on the way out. Might be a good idea, seeing's what he has made of the White House these past four years – a cauldron of grift and indelible evil.

Michael Cohen, who knows Trump as well as anybody, thinks Trump will go to Mar A Largo for the holidays and never come back for an inauguration that would be like ice-picks in his eyes. Sounds about right.

But what happens then? For my dollar, federal marshals should descend on Trump like hungry piranhas and haul his ass off in bracelets. That probably won't happen because life is not that simple. There is a possibility that Trump will pardon himself and most of his accomplices before he splits. That might be remedied by the new administration and a supreme court who finally stands up for what it is supposed to stand up for – justice.

Donald Trump is the biggest criminal in the history of this country and for him the adage that “justice delayed is justice denied” fits like a glove on his dainty hands. He should die in jail, ranting into the walls.

But there are 70 million Americans who would take a Trump trial as further evidence of a rigged system. So what? What are they actually going to do?

For the most part, nothing, because they are too desperate and disorganized to mount any real threat. Most of his supporters, like all Americans, are too busy trying to stay alive. Sure, there are a bunch of mutts who would camo up and load their ersatz AKs and take to the streets, but their kind of craziness could be dispatched by law enforcement and even the military.

The Biden administration's Justice Department and military will be heeding the Constitution, not some nut job with crazy hair. They will handle any kind of leftover Trump madness.

It is going to take some time for America to right four years of wrong, but Joe Biden and his people are playing right through all Trump's bullshit and laying the tracks for a renewed American locomotive that will plow through whatever is left of Trump's debris.
