There have been three “Purge” movies so far with another due next year and a television series currently on cable.
The theme of these horror shows is that every year there is a 12-hour window in which there are no laws and anything goes – including murder and rape, among other crimes.
The first “Purge” movie was in 2013 and it eerily presaged what Donald Trump is about, which is purging any truly democratic principles from our formerly great nation – great despite a heinous history of enslavement and ethnic cleansing, which haunts us to this day. As long as Trump is president, America cannot be great among nations.
Trump's “Purge” has loosened and given free rein to every evil impulse of the American soul, every cruelty that has been heretofore shrouded in happy talk of freedom and democracy, which are both anathema to Trump and his enablers.
With the installation of the sour-faced drunk Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and the selection of the bloated swine Bill Barr as attorney general, Trump is well on the way to purging this country of its democratic, constitutional roots.
Trump knows as little of the Constitution as he does of the Bible, and could care less about either, given his megalomania to be free and clear of any political, moral, or ethical restraints. He would be king of a fallen nation that he in fact felled, a gutted shell that answers only to the rich and powerful, where everyday citizens are in reality little better than serfs, struggling to keep their heads above the tides of greed and cruelty that are the natural milieu of Trump and his slimy ilk.
Trump long ago purged himself of any responsibility and accountability for what are the actual rapes he is accused of, his mantra then and now being “deny, deny, deny,” the words inculcated into his DNA by his evil and AIDS-ridden mentor, Roy Cohn. Trump's (questionable) wealth and current power have made him seemingly bullet-proof to any accusations, no matter the number and by whom.
This moral cretin has sought to purge almost every cabinet department of morality and/or legality, waging an almost unfettered campaign against the workings and foundations of American democracy. He is a demon of chaos.
And his ongoing purges have been aided and abetted every step of the way by a Republican party that is little better than a herd of pigs, feeding endlessly at the trough of rank and privilege, with nary a though to ultimate accountability and the judgment of history – if there is a remaining history.
The time is past to hem and haw and mutter and call Congressional witnesses who either refuse to appear or to utter 155 refusals to answer, as did that political courtesan, Hope Hicks.
Fuck all that. Nancy Pelosi seems to feel that the weight of traditional methods will finally pull Donald Trump down to a true accounting. That has not been the case nor does it appear to be the case for the future. Every day that this monster is allowed to go truly unchallenged is a day that only makes him stronger and more lawless.
Instead of chiding the young Democratic members of the House for their outspoken demands for the beginnings of impeachment, Pelosi should simply do it. It is her duty.
Robert Mueller's televised testimony next week would be a perfect launching pad for televised impeachment hearings. One thing Trump does understand – and fear – is the power of television.
Trump himself must be irrevocably purged. The nation is at stake.
