To The Bone

There's an old saying: Beauty is skin deep; ugly goes clear to the bone.

I thought of that when I saw Stephen Miller's face on the internet today.  He's more creepy-looking than flat-out ugly, but there's an ugliness to his soul that goes to the bone and shines out with the dark light of Nod at the eerie world he perceives. 

At 34, Stephen Miller seems to have already reached his pinnacle of soul-ugliness by his endlessly cruel and tormenting treatment of immigrants. He is totally on board with his master-in-ugliness's edict: “Our country is full.”

Actually, it sounds like Miller might have written that one. It's hard to tell among ugly souls.

Physical beauty and ugliness are matters of chance and should be  judged as such – but the depth of soul-ugliness demonstrated on a daily – hourly? – basis by Trump, Miller et al has to be constantly judged on a moral as well as a political basis. These are people infested with an ugliness of the soul that translates to actions of true evil. That can be the only explanation for separating and caging children. Caging children. Does America have the capacity for that kind of incipient evil? Evidently so. It is still happening, now in true crisis proportions.

Trump's soul-ugliness is compounded by an amoral and supremely and dangerously narcissistic personality that must be constantly fed a stained stream of flattery and ego-massaging. He is basically a soulless sixth grader. 

Even the physically attractive Trumpians radiate a soul-ugliness. It is no accident that HEW “leader” Betsy DeVros has been christened “Cruella DeVros” for her casual destruction of what is left of a very second-rate education system to begin with. She is basically in the business of pumping up the fortunes of the questionable sphere of charter schools. Education, like most of the Trump administration, is all about the Benjamins and is for sale to the highest bidder willing to kick back somehow. 

Thank God Kirstjen Nielsen is gone, although nothing is going to change – except get worse. She was in so far over her head and took such a relentless pounding from Trump that it raised the level of her soul-ugliness to the point it was embarrassing for her and to witness. It wasn't ugly enough for Trump and Miller, though, and away she went and the next poor soul brought in to uglify. 

You line the Trump kids up for a photo op and they look okay. A little arrogant, but okay. But when the photo op is over, and they go back to whatever they do, their inner ugliness becomes evident. Ivanka – daddy's Freudian Baby Doll – is possessed of a truly amazing tone deafness that can only be attributed to an inherited ugliness. Her brothers have the arrogant ignorance of the truly stupid and soul-ugly. Tiffany is uglying up Penn Law right now. She'll attain full soul-ugliness once she joins the fun in DC.

Oh, and Jared? He's a true pretty boy, but he too has a full measure of soul ugliness in his DNA. The reason you never hear him talk is that he sounds like the little girl in “The Exorcist” when her head was spinning around. 

That's pretty ugly, no?
