Yo, Freud, Listen Up

This guy Mick Mulvaney, whose name sounds like he's out of a dime detective novel, is saying that there might be another shutdown on Friday. He's like the chief of staff of the moment so maybe we should listen to him.

If Trump shuts a quarter of the government down again it will be a textbook example of what is supposed to be Einstein's epigram that defines insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different  results.”

And as sure as Saturday will follow this Friday, Trump is again going to be stuck behind the shutdown eight ball because Nancy Pelosi et al aren't going to roll over this time either – or ever. Jeez, there might even be the original $1.5 billion for border security, but no way is Trump going to get his sacred $5.7 billion for his fairy tale wall.

He still will shut down the government if he doesn't get it even though last week he was saying that the wall is already being built and that the funding is all okey-doke. I don't know what Freud would make out of that, although I have the feeling it would be something like pathological lying. There's also the very evident case for Trump being a malignant narcissist. This dude sure has a lot of pathologies going on to be president of anything.

This shutdown is going to be another very costly bow to his rabid base for a couple reasons: first, Trump's going to get beat again and risk being called the worst possible name in his limited vocabulary – loser – and also some of these Trumpsters are seeing 8% less of an income tax return than the bonanza Trump promised when his phony-ass tax bill went through. Phantom walls are one thing, but taking money out of people's pockets is as real as it gets and people are going to remember that right up until they enter the voting booth in 2020.

So Trump's going to be putting people literally back on the soup lines and at the same time he is using their tax dollars to pay off his rich homeys. When the tax bill went through, Trump walked around Mar-A-Lago telling them, “I just made you guys a lot richer.”

Now he's telling his base in so many words, “I just made you a lot poorer” and I'm also putting over a million people out of work again. How long can they take that shit?

Also, I think the scumbag performance of Matthew Whitaker on TV last week had to turn off some Trumpsters, even if it was a star turn of arrogance and vainglory and a thumbing of his nose at the Congress of the United States. Of course, that shitshow probably delighted the hardest core of the base.

The Trump “presidency,” if you can call it that, has been the tacky foray of a totally unqualified grifter into the world of national and international politics and it has been a disaster of epic proportions. And it will continue that way as long as Trump keeps pushing the reset button and getting the same results.

Hey, it could be the nuclear button – right, Sigmund?
