Enjoy It Now, Brett

Lady Justice weeps on her pedestal. The Supreme Court is a hall of shadows now. A basic process of American democracy has been cast aside again, mocked even, as male rage and tribal politics have again obliterated any traces of truth and fairness.

A man whose toxicity and anger-soaked desire for revenge have been presented for all the world to gasp at has been seated on the highest court in the land by a group of tired and hide-bound old white men whose only motive for their betrayal of American ideals is to remain in power. They are totally despicable as is their willing female accomplice, Susan Collins.

The FBI was effectively muzzled by the White House and the re-opened investigation was a charade of hypocrisy and misogyny . 

But to bring Yogi Berra’s wisdom into this dismal scenario, it ain’t over til it’s over. Come November 6, a hard rain is going to fall on this congress and a degree of sanity and integrity will be restored. The whirlwind reaped won’t be Kavanaugh’s of hate and anger, but of partially setting right the fearful tilt toward authoritarianism.

With at least a Democratic House of Representatives, investigations will be undertaken in the full light of truth and thoroughness and Brett Kavanaugh’s history of outright perjury, as well as sexual assault, will be thrust before a Senate that cannot  finally deny such clear evidence. If by a stroke of American decency and intelligence, the Senate is also won by the Democrats, impeachment of both Trump and Kavanaugh is not an impossibility. 

In the meantime, the so-called fake news is going to go full-tilt boogie after Kavanaugh’s raggedy ass. The New York Times hung a big bullseye on Trump’s back for his family shady tax dealings and there are agencies in New York currently gearing up to look deeply into the Times’ allegations. 

Despite Donald Trump’s incessant yammering lies about the American media, it’s as good as it gets and its brightest and best are going to use their smarts and sources and every means at their considerable disposal to run down the 40-something witnesses the FBI totally overlooked --- as well as totally and incredibly ignoring questioning both Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford. 

Whatever Kavanaugh and the White House were afraid the FBI was going to uncover, the determined and motivated fourth estate is going to be digging as deep as the Washington post did on Watergate, and, while bringing to light the Kavanaugh secrets won’t bounce Trump out of the White House, it will make him even more paranoid about the very serious investigations into his administration in all its shady aspects. What Robert Mueller can turn up vis a vis Trump will make even Brett Kavanaugh’s worst drunken exploits and political debts seem like the pernicious footnotes they will be in comparison.

Brett Kavanaugh will never be truly Justice Kavanaugh to much of America – to that America who values the rule of law, judicial temperament, and sober decision-making. To them and to history Brett Kavanaugh will be a stain on the honor of the Supreme Court and of the nation  itself.
