Kid Stuff the Real Stuff

Fuck you, Trump, a bunch of kids showed you how to put on a real rally, not the cheesy-ass little Hitlerfests you put on to massage your pitiful ego.p

In a little over a month, a team of teenagers from Florida pulled off a miracle of organization and international exposure and – most of all, truth-telling to power. That is a time frame that is unequaled in America and the world for an event of this sheer magnitude -- and probably impossible for any adult organization now extant to pull off. 

These young Floridians used their native and imaginative and creative skills to get after gun violence and the NRA with a passion and integrity and intelligence that could never come from any other generation. It was as if these young minds and bodies had been waiting for a call like this to stem the armed violence in America and the plague of so-called “school shootings” in particular that have darkened our society.

The Florida kids rose up in self defense and anger after the killing of 17 of their own and teenagers and other concerned people throughout America and the world responded with an almost instant tide of support to make Saturday’s March for Our Lives as big around the world as in Washington, where nearly a million rallied against this murderous epidemic. 

This was a perfect storm of message and messengers. God knows how many people participated in the marches in Washington and around the world. Easily in the millions. And hundreds of millions followed on social media and television. Young people showed how using what is their second nature – social media – and using it with a sophistication and creativity that would cost millions of dollars on the adult market brought off a monster event in an a startlingly and amazingly brief amount of time. 

At the marches around the country I never saw so many beautiful, rapturous faces. They felt each other’s power, and it was an awakening and a realization that the future is theirs and it must be better and that it is within them to overcome the moral and ethical and political crimes that trash like Donald Trump and the NRA have perpetrated on America.

They stood on that platform with the capitol standing magnificent in the background and they showed to the nation and the world in the most eloquent and passionate terms that they are coming for the NRA-backed politicians who abet the slaughter, that they are now and will be a force against the old, deadly ways annd that there is still afoot in this land truth and justice. 

There was more true reality and passion and clarity in the speeches of these young people than you could find in twenty years in the congressional halls and statehouses of this troubled country.  And these kids were able to attract the highline musicians and Hollywood and other celebrities that Donald Trump would give one of his children for and who wouldn’t touch him with an eleven-foot pole. These kids showed the NRA and its ass-kisser Trump that the bullshit is over, and now it’s time for payback.

And we all know what payback is.
