The 45th
President of the United States is obviously, incontrovertibly out of whatever
mind he has left because nobody in their right mind fucks with the NFL.
In
football-crazed Alabama last week, he called on NFL owners to fire the “son of
a bitch” players who knelt in protest of police brutality and NFL fans to
boycott the league unti l they do. That’s really insane.
Trump barely
owns what little of his chaotic presidency is left, totally ignoring the disaster
that is Puerto Rico, while the NFL owns what used to be the most sacred day of
the week, Sunday, as was pointed out in the movie “Concussion.”
Trump also owns his big flapping rocket
mouth and is now shooting it off with a reckless promiscuity that belies true
madness – or stupidity unequaled in the annals of American presidential
history.
NFL
president Roger Goddell, never to be mistaken for a liberal, said, “Divisive
comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our
great game, and all of our players.”
The NFL
owners, most of whom are legitimate billionaires, doubtless consider Trump a
tinhorn, and do not take lightly to a lightweight like they consider him –
president or no – telling them how to run their businesses. Patriots’ owner
Robert Kraft, a longtime friend, labeled Trump’s remarks as “deeply
disappointing.”
Kraft’s
sainted quarterback, Tom Brady, another Trump pal, said, “I strongly disagree
with what he said.” Aaron Rodgers, too, sided with the protesting players and
ex-Eagle Shady McCoy spoke for many players when he called Trump “an asshole.”
The NFL
owners have many and strong political connections and are most likely
whispering in many Republican
politicians’ ears that Trump has finally gone too far. Some of these
owners kicked in a million bucks to the Trump campaign and they aren’t the kind
of people to stand still for what I’m sure they consider a presidential
back-stabbing and maybe even some kind of restraint of trade. There has already
been a complaint lodged with the Office of Government Ethics.
Donald
Trump, in his deranged, meandering, illiterate rants, ironically illicits
almost poetic response from his targets/enemies. Kim Jong Un, whom Trump christened with the less than brilliant
“Little Rocket Man,” went him one much better, calling his “mentally deranged
behavior “ that of a “dotard,” a very cool ancient term that the dictionary
defines as “a state of senile decay marked by decline of mental poise,” a
suitably cool definition for that cool term. And spot on, judging by what’s
coming out of Trump’s rocket mouth.
He picked a
fight with the NBA, too, over Steph Curry’s refusal to go to the White House,
and roused LeBron James – once described by Trump as “a great player and a
great guy” – to label Trump a “bum” and tell him that “going to the White House
was a great honor until you showed up.”
Referencing
Charlottesville, LeBron went on that “this guy we’ve put in charge has tried to
divide us once again.”
NBA star
Chris Paul wondered if Trump is “man enough to call any of those NFL players a
son of a bitch to their face”? Surely a rhetorical question in the light of
Trump’s legendary physical cowardice.
The mother
of Colin Kaepernick, who was the first NFL player to kneel in protest, said, “Guess
that makes me a proud bitch” despite the fact that she has been uneasy about
her adopted son’s stance.
Kaepernick
should tweet Trump a thank you because on Sunday more than 200 NFL players
knelt or otherwise protested both Trump and police brutality. Typically, Trump mis-read
their linking of arms as a show of patriotism rather than the show of
solidarity against his stupid rants that it was. in Monday night, even Dallas Cowboys
owner Jerry Jones joined the protest and kneeled while linking arms with his players!

Thanks,
Rocket Mouth – we needed that.
